I learned concrete on a municipal crew, pouring sidewalks, curbs and steps to city standards, and I started Advantage Portsmouth Concrete in 2013 to bring that same discipline to homes and properties. Today we're a licensed and insured concrete contractor in Portsmouth, VA, best known for careful flatwork, the driveways, patios, walks and floors that lie on the ground, planned before a single truck shows up.
The parts I care about most are the ones nobody sees once the concrete is down. We dig out and pack the subgrade, the ground your slab sits on, so it doesn't settle with loose dirt, and we set the slope so water runs away from your house. If a budget gets tight, I'd rather keep the base and simplify the finish, because a nice surface can't save a poor base.
